Midget 5-speed gearbox kit

This kit provides the parts required to replace the 4 speed transmission in A-series Midgets and Sprites with a Suzuki Jimny 5 speed unit.
The kit includes an aluminium engine back plate, rear gearbox mounting bracket and AV mounts, gear change mechanism, billet flywheel (5kg), high torque starter motor, 190mm clutch kit (150Nm torque capacity), new propshaft, clutch cable conversion, fasteners and gaskets. All parts are new.
All you need to add is a gearbox and speedometer. We can supply fully reconditioned gearboxes, or recondition yours, see below for more details.
Suitable gearboxes can be found in 1995 – 2005 manual Suzuki Jimnys with either G13B or M13A engines.
The Suzuki gearbox is a compact, durable and modern 5 speed transmission. Weighing only a few kg more than the 4 speed BMC ‘ribcase’ gearbox and fitting a Spridget chassis without any modifications it is a great upgrade.
Synchromesh on all forward gears and an overdrive top gear transform how the car drives.
The crossmember does not need to be removed so there are no issues with IVA compliance and the structural integrity of the car is in no way compromised.

Notes
- The Suzuki gearbox has no speedometer drive or sensors.
- The engine backplate is a direct replacement for the original BMC part so should be compatible with most aftermarket oil seal conversions. However, we have only tested with the OEM scroll seal arrangement and do not personally endorse or recommend any particular aftermarket oil seal kits or conversions.
- Gear stick exits in the stock location with throw close to that of the original. The gearstick thread is 5/16-18 UNC and directly compatible with original gear knobs.
